This week you're responsible for finding the definitions & learning them for #1-10. You can use the hints provided here or construct your own (accurate) definition.
#1-10 do not follow a spelling pattern or go in a story. Instead, they are 4th grade testing words that our students are expected to know.
1. thorns: Hard and sharp-pointed parts sticking out from a woody stem. For example, the stems of roses have thorns. hard and sharp-pointed projection from a woody stem
2. fungus: An example of a fungus is a mushroom. You could order fungus on your pizza!!
3. fungi: More than one fungus.
4. surface: The outer layer or top of something. You might try to float on the surface of the water.
5. increased: If something increases, it goes up or more is made. If the population increases, there are more people.
6. scattered: If something has scattered, it is spread all around. You can scatter confetti all over the floor and it will be spread all over!
7. agriculture: Another word for farming.
8. occupation: Another word for job.
9. occurred: If something occurred, it happened.
10. infer: You used your inference skills to figure out what happened with the dvds and salt container in science. You observed a scene and then made a decision based on what you saw.

- From the University of California, Davis, I graduated with a BA in English Literature (major) and Teacher Education (minor). While at UCD, I competed on the swim team and was a yearbook staff writer. From the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, I earned a Master's Degree in Education, specializing in Curriculum and Instruction. While at the University of the Pacific I also wrote and received a grant for a literacy project and for a travel project. I possess a Clear Multiple Subject teaching credential with Supplementary Authorization in English from the State of California. I have passed the examination for California Teachers of English Learners (CLAD/CTEL) in all three domains. In addition, I am classified as a 'NCLB Highly Qualified Teacher'. For eleven years I have taught fourth grade (and I love it!) My education experiences also include 5th, a 4th/5th combination class, K, 1st, high school varsity/jv sports coaching and a unique & rewarding experience supervising incarcerated dual diagnosis developmentally disabled adults in math and reading activities.
