Today students were each given:
a piece of bright blue fabric
a green feather
teal acrylic paint
royal blue tempera paint
paintbrush
8.5 x 11" white paper
and asked to use their imaginations to create a masterpiece. The blue fabric pieces were unusually shaped and students really became very creative with their artwork, it was very impressive! When the pieces are dry I will post a photograph of their creations.
If students are interested in finding inexpensive items for creating art at home:
Scrap SF
Scrap SF has a number of varied items that can be used in art projects. All are very reasonably priced. http://www.scrap-sf.org/ is their website. They are located at 801 Toland and it's best to use the Scrap SF website for directions. Mapquest directions to this site are misleading.
Another art/craft warehouse space is located on Division/13th underneath the freeway, right near Folsom, across the street from Rainbow grocery's parking lot entrance. I cannot recall the name of this site but they have very inexpensive materials and may only be open on weekends.
