PLEASE READ- LOTS OF INFORMATION

Please pass this information on to anyone who needs it. It's very information-dense! Email me with any questions.

Books to Bravo
We're starting a new performance opera with the San Francisco Opera. Students will write their own acts and perform them in May. Our 4/5 class will be using the book The Great Hornspoon. This is very exciting and we will begin on March 2. Although no supplies are needed at this time, parents can help by ensuring that their 4th grader brings his/her Great Hornspoon book each day to school.

Valentine's Day Celebration Reminders
Bringing paper valentines is optional. However, if bringing, please bring for every student in our 4/5 class: Akilah, Rafael, Jacqueline, Gabriela, Isabel, Adriana, Ingrid, James, Chelsea, Joshua, Keion, Daniella, Hasana, Kamiri, Jaden T., Sariah, Colleen, Elijah, Sergio, Nataly, Carlo, Juan, Mariano, Carmen, Riana, Mireya, Hugo, Jaden N., Justine, Sabrina, Antonio. If bringing treats, please only bring treats that can go into a paper bag and taken home easily. One student wanted to bring in fried chicken for everyone. While this would be interesting, this would not work for storing in a bag. Another student asked about cupcakes-- this also would not work well for storing in a bag. Think small & dry treats/goodies.

HWK Notices
Were not distributed for 4th graders today, just 5th graders.
4th graders may take them home on Thursday.

Dr. Seuss' Birthday
We will celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday on March 2 with special reading activities. No later than February 26th, please bring in the following items for us to borrow: blankets, sleeping bags (to lie on top of, not in), pillows, Dr. Seuss books, other special books and reading materials. We will have a reading marathon to celebrate & feature guest readers in our classroom. The weekend of February 27-28 would be a great opportunity to take your child to the library or bookstore so they have something exciting to read on March 2.

Gardening Grant Project
On many upcoming Thursday afternoons, our 4th grade will continue to partner with students from CDS to create our new outdoor gardening area. So far we have been working on sculpture design for the garden while we get to know our partner class from CDS. We are really fortunate to be able to receive all of these materials to create such a wonderful, organic, sustainable garden for our whole school to enjoy! Pictures and updated progress reports to follow. We will need high-quality, organic soil for our planters. If you are interested in donating for this part of our project, please let me know.

Cootie Shots, February 19
Our 4/5 class will visit the New Conservatory Theatre (NCT) for a play called Cootie Shots, Theatrical Inoculations Against Bigotry. The performance & Q&A lasts about 1 hour and begins at 10:00am. Cootie Shots is an innovative live performance featuring short scenes and poems that provide a fun, constructive way to promote tolerance and celebrate diversity of races, cultures, religions, families, appearances, genders, and gender roles. Through this program, the hope is that young people will discover new ways to find similarities in their differences, and to help prevent bullying, teasing, and discrimination in school. If you would like to help out with this field trip, please let me know via email. This is a free performance and your only cost would Check Spellingbe your bus fare, which you will pay yourself. Permission slips to follow.
