Spelling words & definitions

Each night this week you should study your words and their definitions so that you can earn a good grade on your test.

1. client: a special customer who uses the services of a business

2. insult: to hurt someone's feelings

3. gross: disgusting

4. careen: move fast in an out-of-control way

5. rummage: search in a hurried, disorganized way

6. reluctant: unwilling, not wanting to do something

7. vanish: disappear

8. reptile: a cold-blooded, egg-laying animal such as a lizard, an alligator, or a turtle

9. startle: surprise, frighten

10. confer: discuss something together

11. delicate: not strong; needing special care

12. toddle: to walk with short, unsteady steps like a young child

13. account: a business partnership with a client

14. characters: the people in a story

15. setting: where and when a story or a play takes place

16. dialogue: the words spoken by the characters

17. stage directions: tell the actors what to do, where to move, and how to speak their lines

18. cast: the characters in a play

19. narrator: the person telling the story in a play

20. parentheses: the stage directions are usually in parentheses. We also use them in math!
