Smart Snacks

Below are some ideas for healthy snacks.

Pretzels
Fruit Smoothies
Trail Mix
Cereal Mix
Ants on a Log (PB on celery "logs" with raisin "ants")
Animal crackers
graham crackers
individual packs of raisins
whole wheat fig bars
bagel slices with peanut butter or jam
fruit and cheese kabobs
vegetables with lowfat dip
fruit cups packed in 100% fruit juice, not syrup
applesauce cups with no added sugar
lowfat & nonfat milk
lowfat pudding cups
lowfat yogurt
baked tortilla chips and salsa
whole grain crackers with cheese cubes, string cheese, or hummus
angel food cake, plain or topped with fruit
seasonal fresh fruit or fruit salad
ham, turkey, or veggie wraps
yogurt parfaits
air popped or light microwave popcorn
veggie pockets (cut whole wheat pitas in half and let kids add veggies with lowfat dressing or hummus)

According to the USDA, the average cost of a serving of fruit or vegetables is only 25 cents-- cheaper than many other less-healthful snacks!
