Newsletter #2

Below is a copy of the class newsletter sent home on the homework notice.

BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT
In conversation a few days ago, a parent asked me where I'd gone to school. I realized that I neglected to share more of my educational background at Back To School Night!
From the University of California, I hold a BA in English Literature and Teacher Education. From the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, I earned a Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis in Curriculum & Instruction. I hold a valid California Clear Multiple Subject teaching credential with Supplementary Authorization in English. I am classified as a NCLB Highly Qualified Teacher. For nine years I have taught fourth grade. My experiences also include 5th, K, 1st, high school sports coaching, and a unique experience supervising incarcerated dual diagnosis developmentally disabled adults in math and reading activities. Of course, my favorite is 4th grade!
At Back-To-School-Night we discussed some of the expectations and routines in fourth grade. If you have any questions, please check our blog and see if the information is there. If it’s not, please feel free to email me any time, I do my best to respond very quickly to you! I check the Agendas daily (thanks for signing!) so you can also write me a note there and know that I will check it each morning.

STUDENT ENVELOPE
Review graded work. Return the empty envelope on Thursdays. We will reuse the envelope all year. If you are concerned about your child removing work please contact me and we can arrange for you to pick up the envelope before or after school at a convenient time.

MISSING WORK
If your student has missing work, she/he should complete it as soon as possible. Don’t get behind. If you have a question about the Homework Notice, please review the sample we reviewed at Back To School Night. If you have any other questions, email me any time.

STUDENT SUPPLIES
Very few students have brought ALL supplies. Please send all school supplies, we need them!

ICON ART PROJECT UPDATE
Thank you so much to families who have donated items for our art project!
We still need A LOT more puffy paints in glitter and solid colors. These should be the types of ‘puffy paint’ or ‘fabric paint’ that would be permanent on clothing. Of course, we are NOT using it for clothing, but that’s the type of paint we need. We also still need a lot of black acrylic paint and a lot of gold leaf paint. Keep it coming! Thank you!!!

FIELD TRIP
Students practiced traveling as a group, getting off and off the bus, lining up, etc. Students were well-behaved. We will schedule more field trips in the future. Thanks to the parents of Elijah, who helped out!
